Why do we need to be safety conscious?
-The rate of accidents these days is enough to explain what accident really means. But then accident is not just about two cars hitting each other on the expressway like the common yoruba statement, “accident shele ni sango bayi”
-That knife that cut your skin is an accident!—You fell on the tiles because you slipped on a watery surface, that’s an accident!
-Your baby drank liquid detergent because he thought it was zobo, that’s an accident!
-You received electric shock because you were managing that electric kettle. Thats is what we call accident!
You can keep adding yours!
Now ask yourself.
Are these occurrences favourable?
Can you imagine the cost you incure due to an accident that could have been prevented.
Imagine a fire accident. Imagine someone close to you dying or getting seriously injured because of an accident!
Some may even never recover financially and health wise.
I think it’s commonsensical to be safety conscious.
Does accident makes you happy?
Could they have been prevented?
This is simple analogy. YES THEY CAN BE PREVENTED!
As simple as trying to keep our environment clean, using nets on our windows, using insecticides and also using mosquito net and instruct everyone not to open the door JUST TO PREVENT MOSQUITO FROM ENTERING THE HOME.
If we apply all these to every other things we do, by analyzing how an accident could happen, the hazard around us that can lead to accidents and the level of risk.
Those that are “oo risky and the ko risky rara” ????
Put all together and establish control measures!
Check the bathroom.
-You have slippery floor.
-You have your boiler connected to electricity.
Some of us have our washing machine.
-Now check your kitchen
-You have your gas
-You have your kerosene.
-You have fire
-You have your knife
-You have chemicals.
-You have electrical appliances
-Check your living room.
-Check your master bedroom
-Check the kids room
-Check the Air conditioners.
-Check all electrical appliance.
Check the store
Check the kids play ground
Now your cars, your kids while going to school. Safety at work etc.
LOTS lots and lots that you won’t even imagine.
Many home accidents have happened that all they blame themselves on is why did I do this or why didn’t I do this? Meaning they can all be prevented!
Now we see why we need to be enlightened about safety!
However, we have a platform where we discuss lot of safety related issue. We also analyze lesson learnt from accidents.
